Around here, we think think that elopements and intimate weddings are just the greatest way to get married. But we are often asked, “what about the party?”
Enter “But the Party,” a blog series where we break down ways to celebrate your marriage with those who didn’t get to see you say I do.
In this post you’ll find all of the things that you'll need to consider when throwing a picnic reception in the park. You will also find links to local Atlanta vendors that could help bring all the elements together.
Reserve the space
Depending on your local government rules, you may need to reserve the space or inform the parks’ department of your event. There may also be a fee to pay or regulations around alcohol.
PICNIC BLANKETS AND PILLOWS FOR SEATING
DIY picnic baskets | $$$
Lean into the theme, thrift a bunch of baskets (no need to be picnic specific), and fill with easy treats: a baguette, fruit, cheeses, quinoa salad, cookies.
Charcuterie boards | $$$
So you’re super fancy, huh? Feed to impress with spreads from the Spotted Trotter.
Don't be a garbage human -- buy biodegradable/compostable tableware.
Keep it simple with some coolers of y’all’s favorite wines and beer.
You’re in nature, you don’t need decor. Plus you have cute blankets and pillows.
Use your portable bluetooth speaker and stream your fav. Pandora station. Make sure you have the ad-free version.
Celebrate your marriage
Maybe recite your vows again.
Tell a funny story from you wedding day.
Tell your guests your favorite part of the day.
Consider the weather
Put a deposit on a tent. Just do it. It’s insurance. You don’t have to actually use it, but you’ll want it in case it starts looking like rain. Or reserve a covered pavilion if your park has one.
Bring corn hole, frisbees, or other games.
Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray for your guests.
If you’re like Shaun and have a giant koozie collection, bring them for your guests to borrow. But do not — we repeat, DO NOT — buy personalized koozies for favors. Literally no one wants them.
Get yourself a flower crown to stand out from your guests.
Think eloping, then partying may be for you?
